Case Study: Healthy Home Expert Completes Mold Remediation in Pasadena House

Mold: a homeowner’s nightmare. Mold and mildew thrive in damp, poorly ventilated areas. If left unaddressed, they can cause serious issues including illness and structural damage. Effective remediation begins with identifying the moisture source and thoroughly cleaning the space. Proper ventilation – especially in damp areas of the home such as the shower or wet room – is key in preventing new growth. Addressing this issue promptly is an essential step in maintaining a safe and healthy living environment.

Caroline Blazovsky, residential design consultant and Healthy Home Expert®, knows this process well and recently lent her knowledge to a California family who needed to rid their house of mold. Guided by Caroline’s expertise, the family turned to AIRMADA Drying Solutions to protect themselves and their recently renovated home.

Where did the installation take place?

We installed the AIRMADA AirJet Shower Drying System in a residential home in Pasadena, California. The style of my client's home is a California ranch, mid-century. It is 2,700 square feet and their primary residence. The homeowner lived in the house for approximately 13 years and wanted to update all bathrooms.

What was the driving factor in updating all bathrooms in the home?

The family is generally concerned about health and having the best quality of life in regard to wellness.  We mutually agree that home is a sanctuary where our bodies heal from external toxins. Our homes are a gateway to good health, and it is our opinion that you will be healthier if you give your body that best environment possible. This means removing carcinogens, particulates, chemicals, allergens, mold and radon from the home whenever possible. This homeowner was concerned about mold in particular.

The bathroom was moldy, and we installed the AIRMADA AirJet Shower Drying System as part of a mold prevention strategy for the future. Master bathrooms, which usually get extensive use, are next to impossible to dry out between showers even with ventilation fans in the bathroom. This is because the bathroom gets frequent use throughout the day from multiple people.

Why is it dangerous to have mold in the house?

Molds can do many things. They produce a protein that causes allergies. They also release mold volatile organic compounds (MVOCs) – chemicals into the air – and if they are toxic molds, can produce mycotoxin into the home. This family discovered mold in their home through testing and also had mold remediation done to ensure it was gone.

The bathrooms were areas that had developed mold over the years. Since they had a mold problem and remediated it, they wanted to ensure that the problem did not return. This includes drying moisture from the showering space to ensure that water does not stay behind and saturate shower substrate, leading to mold growth again.

Why did you choose AIRMADA Drying Solutions for this project?

I recommended the AIRMADA AirJet Shower Drying System because it allows for fast drying and easier cleaning in the shower area. We love that the shower glass has no spots upon drying and harsh cleaning products are not required to keep the shower clean.  We chose the AirJet Shower Drying System to make sure that mold does not grow in or behind the shower and that showering areas dry out thoroughly, not leaving a water source for mold to grow.

The company offers a dependable, well-designed product that takes every angle of the showering and bathing space into consideration. They work to design a drying system that effectively dries all areas of the shower with rotational nozzles and nozzles positioned in designated areas to dry the whole showering space and doors. The system uses a timer that allows the client to select drying time for the space. It also uses conditioned air to dry; it does not pull air from an undesirable place in the home like a garage or basement.
